No Religion Bar

Today I came to read a news and couldn't stop myself from sharing it. The news is about peace talks with Maoists. But I am not talking about it. I am talking about what Swami Agnivesh has said while addressing the religious congress. The news says,

'Agnivesh said the Union Government must ensure that information on religion or caste is not recorded in school or academic registers as religion divides people.

"A child should have no religion upto the age of 18. The government must ensure that there should not be any claims for religion or caste in school register or academic register," he told a plenary session on 'Role of Religion in Promoting Human Rights' as part of the ongoing 33rd World Congress here.

"One should have the freedom to choose any religion after the age of 18," he said.

He advised students to "read all scriptures and know all religions".

"There is need to fight against injustice and social evils like gender inequality, female foeticide and bride burning," he said.'

I found the suggestion of not having any religious record of children under the age of 18 very interesting and important. This will cause the government to find any other appropriate way to judge the real poor and rich people which makes it firm that the monetary help in the form of scholarships etc. goes in the right and deserving hands.

What do you people think about it?

I agree and disagree with it. Makes no sense to enforce religion unless people understand but religion is primary means to educate morale...

@ Hemant Kumar - apne vichaar rakhne k liye aapka bahut bahut shukriya. aapne bilkul sahi kaha k dharm aaj vayavsaaye ban chuka hai. aaj yadi aap subah ssubah tv on karen to kitne telebrans ke vigyapan aapko mahange buri nazar se bachaane vaale aur kaam sidhdh karne vaale mantrit locket, chain, anguthi, kangan aadi ke bade bade vigyapan aate hue milenge.

@ A - Thanks A. I am totally agree with you that there is no use of enforcing religion if we don't understand what is religion for. It is not to separate us but to unite us and to teach us morale and moral values.

In my opinion, nobody should bother about religion infact we should all unite and have strong bond to make our country better and better. There is no use of religion and all because of religion so many things are happening which is pathetic. Very well written. Nice post.

Its a good idea, but it would be much more better if the religion doesn't come in the school/college registration forms and stuff. besides that, a school/college shouldn't enforce any religion oriented programs. i.e, a christian school would be celebrating Christmas and Easters whereas a Hindu school/college would be celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi or stuff like that. These celebrations should be banned in an educational institution.

@ Ajan- Very agree with you Ajan. Whether schools shouldn't celebrate these festivals or they should celebrate other religion's festivals too. Like I found Swami Agnivesh's advice to read all scriptures and know all religions very good too.
